Vitalzym Enzyme SupplementVitalzym is an enzyme supplement. Sometimes it is called a proteolytic enzyme supplement, and sometimes a pancreatic enzyme supplement. The reason is that proteolytic enzymes are created by the pancreas. Vitalzym contains: protease, bromelain, serrapeptase, amylase, lipase, papain, rutin, and amla. It is highly recommended that anyone taking Vitalzym also take a cold-processed "green" product called Barley Power. Vitalzym contains specific enzymes that do specific things, but Barley Power contains many enzymes that may help the enzymes in Vitalzym work better, plus Barley Power contains hundreds of enzymes that have not yet been studied for what they do. Barley Power is a powerful supplement.
WARNINGProteolytic enzymes are blood thinners. Vitalzym should NOT be used in conjunction with prescription blood thinners. Also, high doses of this product should not be taken, just as too high of a dose of any blood thinner should never be taken. While different people have different opinions of how high a dose of Vitalzym should be taken, the Vitalzym bottle itself lists the maximum daily dose as 9 Vitalzym pills a day. It should not be taken 2 weeks prior to surgery. The major danger to having "thin blood" is what could happen if you fall, especially if you hit your head. It may create internal bleeding. While Barley Power is also an enzyme product, it has far fewer blood thinning enzymes in it, thus, there is no maximum dosage of Barley Power that will be recommended.
An ExceptionPeople with severe circulatory problems (e.g. those with type 1 diabetes) may need to take very high doses of proteolytic enzymes for a short period of time. Do not do this unless you are under the care of a health practitioner. He or she may require you to take blood tests.
